Baxter X Stussy "SKATE SOAP"

New Bar Soap titled “SKATE SOAP” launches September 2011

Baxter of California, the premium men’s grooming line since 1965, teams up with STUSSY JAPAN on “SKATE SOAP”.

Branded under the Stussy Japan “Stussy Livin’ General Store” moniker, the new collaboration product is a glycerin soap molded to scale in the shape of a 58 mm skate wheel. The scent is titled “Rain Shower”, a high performing, ultra green fragrance. (Fresh bamboo blended with amber and oak-moss and rounded out by jasmine)

Both brands are rooted in California with heritage dating back to the early 80’s (Stussy) and the mid 60’s (Baxter of California), and have a strong appreciation for the history and culture of the California lifestyle.


The bar will retail for $7 and is available at Baxter Finley barber & shop, Stussy locations worldwide and online at baxterofcalifornia.com  + stussy.com.

BAXTER OF CALIFORNIA, the premium men’s grooming and lifestyle brand since 1965, collaborates with exclusive rue Saint Honoré retailer colette on a soy wax candle themed “We love California”.  The two marks are well known for engaging in significant collaborative projects with other fashion and lifestyle brands.

The new scented-soy-wax-candle aptly named “Cruel Summer” was inspired by the scent and ambience of California. Cruel Summer opens with a very powerful green, leafy top note accented with a citrus lemon undertone.  The body of this complex blend is a floral, green bouquet starring brilliant hyacinth, tempered with notes of cyclamen, and accented with a fresh marine accord.  These rest on an alluring white musk base, embellished with cedar wood.

“We Love California” candles are designed by Marc Atlan, an art director with packaging credits including Comme des Garçons, Helmut Lang and Yves Saint Laurent. Atlan, whose résumé previously includes projects for Baxter of California, describes his design as a breezy homage to the pop music of the 80’s.

Cruel Summer will be available in both Los Angeles, and Paris. Sold at the rue Saint Honoré colette Paris boutique, and also available in Los Angeles at Baxter’s barbershop [Baxter Finley, barber & shop].

JYA-BXTR-RDSPC: Joya the NYC-based fragrance and home ambiance innovator  - Baxter of California, the premium men’s grooming line since 1965 – Reed Space, a NYC pioneer in the concept of a “lifestyle boutique”, have all joined forces to create “LAPSANG NOIR”.

The new scented-soy -wax -candle was inspired by the Joya-Baxter “Flammable” Noir home fragrance series. Lapsang Noir is a Smoky, steaming black Lapsang Souchong Tea with inflections of exotic Indonesian herbal tones over a warm and radiant white floral complex of Tuberose, Pikaki, Ylang Ylang and Jacaranda blossoms.

"We were burning the Baxter "Noir" Candle Series at the Staple Design studios as well as Reed Space on a regular basis. It was a unanimous favorite for the whole company,” Says Jeff Staple, Founder of Reed Space. "This experience inspired us to create a custom scent that was uniquely ours, but still, shared the spirit of Baxter of California and Joya. The result is something that took 15 months to create and we are supremely proud of—Lapsang Noir."

The Lapsang Noir candle will be available in two sizes: HALF KILO (RRP$84) and FULL KILO (RRP$151). The large black wax candles have impressive burn times of 100 hours (1/2 Kilo) and 200 hours (full Kilo). New York consumers can find the candle at Reed Space on the Lower East Side of Manhattan, and also available in Los Angeles at Baxter’s barber shop [Baxter Finley, barber & shop]. Additionally the candles will be available online and at select retail partners.

Baxter of California X Saturdays NYC "Beach Soap"

 

We are still grinning at this - it came out so good!

Baxter of California, the premium men’s grooming line since 1965, teams up with Saturdays NYC to produce a limited distribution “Beach Soap”.

The new soap is loosely inspired by Baxter’s popular Italian Lime scented glycerin bar, but was “re-mixed” by the guys at Saturdays to capture the essence of the Atlantic Ocean. The team formulated a CITRUS & HERBAL-EUCALYPTUS blend resulting in a fresh, masculine interpretation of the ATLANTIC.

The hand made 3.5 oz. bar will retail for $8 and is available at Saturdays NYC, Baxter Finley barber & shop, and online at www.baxterofcalifornia.com.

The Glycerin based bar is enriched with skin soothing Aloe Vera, Vitamin E, D and A, plus hydrating Seal Kelp extract.

 

BAXTER OF CALIFORNIA “NOT A REPLICA” CUT THROAT RAZOR - MADE IN THE USA

 

With the previous limited edition 45th anniversary blade being so successful, we had to bring a new blade to market -

The new blade is loosely inspired by firearms, and is titled “not a replica”. The blade features a matte black tang (handle), and blue steel blade. Proudly manufactured in the USA by Hart Steel, the blade was custom designed by the Baxter of California creative team.

The blade is offered at $240. In addition to the blade, Baxter of California called on MAKR Carry goods once again to make a new leather sleeve for the blade. The sleeve is hand crafted from Horween Cordovan leather (Navy Blue), and takes style cues from the popular MAKR angle wallet. Blade + Sleeve retails for $325.

The Hart Steel blade is predominately a hand made product, and all of the processes are completed in Northern Michigan by skilled artisans. Hart Steel is tested at a Rockwell hardness of 63, which gives one’s razor the sharpest and most long-lasting edge possible. Artisan Technicians, from start to finish, hand grind, mark, sharpen and assemble each razor. Each AT personally stamps each razor to indicate his craftsmanship.

Genuine Shell Cordovan is the art of tanning at its finest.  More than just a color, it’s a very specific leather, from a particular part of a horsehide.  The irregular oval shaped shells are tanned, stuffed, shaved, and then polished – a process taking six months.  Each shell is slowly steeped in gentle vegetable liquors. The shells are genuine hot stuffed then slicked onto glass frames to dry.  Each shell is hand curried and shaved by highly skilled artisans to expose the shell. Dyes are hand rubbed on for a deep aniline finish. Finally, the shells are hand glazed to achieve the rich, glossy look and feel prized by fine craftsmen.

MAKR Carry Goods - new products

We are huge fans of Makr. I mean ... we asked them for help with our 45th anniversary blade, and they totally killed it. We, like you, are probably used to the cool small leather goods. But recently the brand has expanded into more lifestyle products like the STUDIO STOOL and a FARM BAG.

Makr's take on the standard school pack. The simple shape is deceiving, there is quite a bit of unusual patterning involved and a hint of Mountaineering in the build. One large compartment with smaller outer zipper pocket. Contoured leather bottom, heavy cotton webbing straps with double folded canvas binding. Leather patch with leather bound hang loop. Exterior is made of heavy cotton duck, leather accents and bottom, YKK Excella Zippers and Heavy Duty Hardware. Laser etched grey tag on interior.
